Today, Doug said that about half of us did well on the test. I was not
in that half. I was able to talk to him afterwards though and got a better idea
of what he is looking for. I assume that if the other half of the class did not
do so well, that you may have made the same mistakes I did. For example, I was
not specific enough in my short answer questions. I was also too broad when
answering the essay question and actually kind of misread it, so I feel like I
was lucky to get any points.
However, like I
said earlier, I was able to talk to Doug about it afterwards and received some
helpful hints that I thought I would share with the rest of you. As I already
said, be as specific as possible. Also, something helpful that Doug pointed out
in the notes that I had taken was that I did not have enough sources to cover
all the short answer questions. That was another issue I ran into during the
test and I was forced to answer a question I was a little iffy.
Finally, Doug also
checked out my paper and gave me some useful info on that. As in the test, be
specific. I think that if you follow everything he has on the guidelines for
the paper, you will be fine. Another thing he pointed out to me on my paper was
that I did not explain my quotes well enough, in that I only had one or two
sentences to explain the text.
Hopefully this is
helpful to those of you who had some of the same issues I did. If you guys have
any other useful info either about the tests or papers please let me know, or
leave a comment.
